Hi,
Using recent ebay sales will give the widow a distorted and a very
optimistic idea of what she might get. Ebay prices are a result of
attracting at least 2 very interested buyers, who usually drive the
final price up. Plus, remember, the seller nets approx. 80% of the ebay
selling price, after spending time packing, etc. Don't forget to look
at listings that did not sell, to see some "buy it now" prices that
don't get buyers.
Local, "pickup" sales, in my experience, will bring maybe 65% of the
ebay "projections".
I've been involved with a few estates locally here, after being asked
to help out. I don't look for the job, but it's something hams must do
for fellow hams. I won't advertise a transmitter, receiver,
transceiver, power supply unless I have checked it out to see if it's
working properly, unless I intend to advertise it as "condition
unknown". That takes time. I sometimes accept some payment, it often
covers my expenses but never my time, and sometimes I refuse payment.
Just my opinion, YMMV
