[Test-Equipment] El-cheapo sweep generators?

I have done this before using two function generators and an oscilloscope which
supports gated frequency measurement like a Tektronix 2236 or 2247A.
One function generator creates a ramp to control the start and end frequency of
the second function generator which needs an input for voltage control. The
oscilloscope sweep is either triggered by the sinc output from the first
function generator. The oscilloscope's delayed sweep gates the frequency
counter to show the frequency at the intensified point on the sweep.
If an external frequency counter which supports gated measurements is used, then
the delayed or B gate output from the oscilloscope can be used to gate it.
