If you are shopping for a VTVM at a price, don't overlook military surplus.

The ME-26 is nothing but an HP 410 in a plain wrapper. That includes the
vacuum tube RF probe, which is integral to the instrument. The ones
appearing on E-Bay lately seem to be a late production run that was never
issued or saw only limited service and are practically "new."

The TS-505 is a virtually indestructible "militarized" VTVM with a cast
aluminum panel and heavy duty case. The "innards" are again very similar to
HP. The major difference is the RF probe, which is in the form of an adapter
that slips over the end of the dc probe, rather than a vacuum tube. In
contrast to the ME-26 most 505s have seen some serious usage, and the front
panel paint is likely to be chipped. The guts will be fine, however, and I
never saw one that couldn't be brought up to specifications with nothing
more than a new 12AU7.
