I sometimes need an analog meter for work, and for that I carry an FET-input meter with a fairly large scale made in what was then West Germany. I find it a suitable modern replacement for the VTVM. You might consider that route - I also own a Conar 212 TVOM which uses FETs and is one of the two meters on my bench that I use most often for general service work.
You could also consider later tubed VTVMs such as the Triplett 850 that is my second most often used bench meter, used with the Conar when I need to meter two voltages at the same time.
