Its very possible to do with LC components vs the group delay thru a 
mechanical or crystal filter.

The CIA couldnt use a R-390A for data due to the distortion and had a 
special model built using the earlier R-390 all LC IF section.

Listen to a properly aligned HRO-60 with its many IF transformers, even SSB 
sounds different (better).
