If you are absolutely sure you have identified the defective resistor, clip
it out. Replace it with a resistance substitution box (or a high-value pot).
Set the substation box (pot) to its highest value. Set the horizontal
control of the scope at mid-point, and dial the resistance down until the
trace centers. Then replace the substitution box with a resistor of the same
value.
