Some grid dip meters can also excite HF xtals simply by plugging
it into the coil socket (FT243 holders seem to fit perfectly).
Not sure how one would connect a counter directly, but tuning in
the signal on a receiver and zero-beating it with a counter-equipped
sig gen might work.
