Thanks to everyone for their recommendation on DVM's to consider. As a
thank you for that information, I thought I would let everyone know the result:
The models suggested ranged from high end products such as Keithley to themore affordable department store imports. I'm amazed how revisiting such asimple subject turned out to be a helpful learning experience. When I firstpurchased my DVM years ago, I remember $30 was a big deal. It still is ofcourse but now work habits and need to measure issues came more into play.It also gave me an opportunity to look at both my indoor and outdoor interests.
For my immediate need, I chose a used Fluke 27/FM (AN/PSM-45A) DVOM kitwhich comes with an 80K6 HV probe. Cost was $79 which included shipping. This is a ruggedized field meter with a strong reputation for accuracy and dependability. There is a cool write up on Antique Radio Forums:

For radio work, it seems ideal. While it does not have the newer whistles orbells such as capacitance or frequency, it's safety and protection features offermy aging hands some assurance that poking around my linear amplifier orpower supply will not necessarily hurt it or myself.
For my bench work, I'm looking at the Fluke 45's and HP 3478A's as a possiblegeneral purpose bench unit. The Keithley's are quite impressive but I am stillresearching them to understand whether it is laurels they are resting on or highend marketing.
73 to all,
