That's a very nice looking Simpson 260, thanks for sharing the photo.

It's not an "original", though, although it does date from
the late 1940's or the early 1950's as you said. 
I'd say it was a series 2 meter, because the markings on the front
panel are engraved, not merely silk-screened, like the original 260
from 1939.  You can see this at the web site
