Hi Mike, et al,
I have one like shown at <http://www.richardsradios.co.uk/megger.html>
"Evershed & Vignoles Megger"
Mine is labeled "Biddle" of Phila., PA, USA, but says "made in
England". I suspect they, and Herman H. Sticht Co., were resellers, or
US distributors. I recognize Sticht as making mechanical tachometers
50+- yrs ago.
I have 2 meggers, this one and a bench unit made by Freed Transformer
Co. The Freed is AC line powered, and goes up to 1000vdc (adjustable),
and can measure in 1000's of megohms (very little leakage). I use it
often to check capacitors for leakage, usually after I've removed them
after suspecting a problem. The hand held one is useful for testing
caps in ckt, sometimes requiring disconnection of one lead, depending
upon the ckt.
