[Test-Equipment] probe question

OK. Most 7xxx probes have both that grounding ring just behind the tip and
the place for the clip closer to the cable entry point.

The ring is usuaally used with a two-prong adapter with a spring loaded
needle point spaced 3/8" or 1/2" off to the side.

I usually use the rear connection and ground lead.

BTW, the probe is almost certainly just a 4950 Ohm resistor in parallel
with a variable cap of roughly 0.5 to 1.5 pF. That is connected via low C
cable to the PI.
