[Test-Equipment] HP 34401A serial numbers

Dave - don't know about date codes but the different number/letters beginning the serial number is not uncommon with Agilent (I think it may have something to do with where the unit was manufactured).  For example, I have a 33220A with a serial number beginning with "MY" that failed during the warranty period and it was replaced by a refurbished unit whose serial number started with "SG."  Other Agilent units I have begin simply with a number.  You can see all the firmware updates available at the Agilent site, simply search for your model number in the support area.
