The only problem I see with this "specific" device, is possibly the 
voltage range it covers.

If that range is too high, IF used in a vacuum tube would cause 
flash-over in the Amateur Radio range of tubes.

Regarding transformer uses, I've seen plenty of 25cycle transformer 
still in use.  So 25 cycle issues also apply.
