Hello Howie,
Go to http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/b&k/1460/ and download the SCHEMATIC
(1460sch.pdf (1 MB)) and the partial copy of the USER MANUAL (1460.djvu (258
KB) of the B+K 1460 Scope. You will need Adobe Reader for the PDF file, and
IRFANVIEW for the djvu file. Google for free copies of each reader... At
the BAMA site, many manuals are readily available, and are posted in PDF or
djvu files (other file styles are also used, so download 'readers' as they
are needed). If you have any problems obtaining the 'readers', let me
know... I can send copies as attachments to an email.
When you print it, we can discuss your problem. I have already printed my
copy of the scope, and I'm looking for components that might cause the
problems that you have described.
Initially, the problem is an 'unbalance' in the input attenuator and/or the
input amplifier. Note that this scope, like many higher-end units, utilize
balanced Vertical Amplifiers. I'm looking for a service manual that will
provide detailed alignment and calibration procedures. It is possible that
the only problem is a re-alignment of the input amplifiers, where the 'DC
Balance' pot, VR101, needs to be adjusted to bring the amplifiers back into
balance. A copy of the alignment procedure will cover this adjustment.
Whatever you do, DO NOT make any adjustments without following the
manufacturer's explicit instructions. Many adjustments are 'interactive' in
that each adjustment may affect the action of other adjustments. The key is
to maintain BALANCE all the way from the input attenuator to the deflection
plates of the CRT.
