Also, polystyrene coil dope has very low RF absorption, way up into the
near-daylight region of the spectrum. With store-bought epoxy, you don't
necessarily know how it will behave at, say, 6m or 23 cm or wherever you
choose to generate or receive your signal. With coil dope, you do,
because as soon as all the solvent evaporates, you've got polystyrene,
which is very much a known (and well-behaved) quantity.
