Thank you for the suggestion to melt polystyrene peanuts with MEK!
Non-shrink (recommended) airplane fabric dope is available at hobby shops, though you may have to hunt for it. It also "cures" or hardens once the jar has been opened and the dope exposed to air. Thinner doesn't seem to help.
I have also used a paper glue-stick with good success with my last coil assemblies. I'd prefer dope, but it had hardened and I was in a rush. Paper glue is water soluble, don't know if that would affect coil performance, but it holds the coil together. It is non-toxic, another strike against it. :^p
