Sounds like the first mixer was vaporized (a common problem). It has
been a few years since i last repaired one, but I think it uses 2 HP
Schottky-barrier diodes in a single-balanced configuration. That's
were I'd go first.
Also, a lot of adjustments ca be made w/o cables or removing modules,
thanks to foresight and thoughtfulness of old-time HP engineers. Just
remove top of RF plug and bottom of IF plug to access adjustments.
