I have one of these and use it all the time to locate/trace buried cables around our campus. Should be 2 units - a transmitter and a receiver. It operates on around 100 kHz. Can be used to inductively couple the signal to the pipe or cable via the antenna (the metal strip around the case) or you can connect directly to the cable/pipe. (I use it inductively). If I can answer any questions, just ask.
I do have a manual for it.
