That quirk of the 403B has been mentioned before on at least one other
test equipment list. Trust me, they all do that. They can also do the
same thing when changing ranges, even with nothing connected to the
input. I retired from the Air Force in 1991, spending 21 years in a
career field that used the 403B from time to time, usually as part of
the HP 3550B test set. Every last one of them did it, at every base I
was stationed at. Over the years after I retired I picked up a couple
of them for home. You guessed it, they both do exactly the same thing.
Not sure why but it's a quirk of the design and nothing to be
concerned about.
