I bought one of these new back when they were current production, in about
1973 or so.  They are NOT accurate enough for commercial use, but for ham
use they should be OK.  The only trouble I had was common, it was noisy sig
when turning the main tuning knob.  The cure is to remove the case, remove
the straight wire spring that held the brush, carbon, down on the
micrometer shaft.  It is the ground connection I think, any way it gets
noisy.  Remove the wire spring, tip the unit upside down and retrieve the
carbon pellet, and clean the shaft, through the hole, with a "Q" tip and
rubbing alcohol, clean the pellet with a damp ""Q" tip, and reassemble.
