Hi All,

And then we get into yet another area of alternative definitions viz; "phase
modulation"

This debate is getting into wilder and wilder places where even the best
techies and PhD's may fear to tread.

For most practical purposes, and for the average ham the very basic
explanations as found in the ARRL or RSGB handbooks are more than sufficient.

This is a hobby not a competitive peer reviewed scientific treatise
exercise. very few hams nowadays design, build or even service (at a major level)
their own gear. For want of a better term most are "appliance operators" and
this applies to a very large number of the members of this group who are
operating Yaesu manufactured "appliances".

This is properly defined in the statistics which may be derived from a) the
number of ops requesting help, b)the number of uninformed and eroneous
replies, and c) the number of self-proclaimed "experts" (I seem to fit this group)
offering advice.

A long time ago in the Royal Air Force, I remember an instructor bawling
into my ear while I sweated over a hot soldering iron "When all else fails
Laddie READ THE DAMN BOOK"

Seems like I keep using that phrase myself "

In the race of life put a big bet on the nag named "Self-Interest" - He will
always be in there trying hard !
