Use of other than the 86601 RF plug-in requires an 8660 to have option 100
which is the installation of an 11661B frequency extension module. (The odd
ventilation area in the top COVER of the 8660 is over the location where the
module is installed.)
I assume your unit doesn't' have one. If you find one, you can add it. You
will most likely find nearly a full calibration of the mainframe will be
required to be able to use it. The frequency control loops typically won't
lock without performing the calibration. (Note the calibration is specific
to the mainframe and 11661B pair. Moving a 11661B from one 8660 to another
usually does not work without performing calibration as well.)
The 11661B's are not often available standalone. You may be better off
finding an 8660C with one pre-installed. Prices have fallen substantially
in the last 5 years but shipping costs are ugly...
