A general rule for the 8640B: if the band knob has a black segment between
the "512" and "1024" markings, it's an ordinary 8640B requiring an external
doubler to reach 1 GHz. If it has no black segments on the band dial it should
be opt. 002 - incorporating the doubler. That's true if nobody has 
changed the knob :-)
