[Test-Equipment] HP 8640 lost detent

All of a sudden, I lost the detent on my signal level control of the
8640.  According to the analog meter the switch is still functioning,
you just can't tell when you change ranges, except for the meter.  Is
this common? Is this easy to correct?  If it's tough to fix and it still
works without the detent, then I'll leave like it is but if an old
rookie can fix it I will.  Any suggestions?  Tnx
