The HP-8690A needs to have the .4 to 110 MHZ plug-in as that is what the HP-8407A needs to operate. It seams that the HP-8601A cost twice as much as the HP-8690A But I know that the HP-8690A will cover higher frequencies. 
The other system has a HP-8610A and a HP-8620C sweeper with various plug-ins that work with that system.
 So as you can see I need to Network Analyze the HF frequencies and do not have a sweeper to work with the HP-8607A.

  There is a 0 to 2 (?) GHz solid state PI available for the 8690, but as I 
  remember it's for the 8410A ANA. The 8690 is a real pain to work on. IMO, if you 
  are determined to go in that direction, consider an 8620, Smaller, neater, 
  cleaner, and a solid state design. NO BWOs !!!  There is still quite a bit of
