I've also seen this with mechanical rotary switch style quadrature
encoders when they are turned faster than the electronics can sample
the switch states.  If it's this style, then, fingers crossed, a shot
of DeOxit might be all that's necessary to fix it.  But if it's an
optical encoder, this joy juice shot is a BAD plan!
