Best thing to do before folks start un-subscribing is to suggest some
references on the subject. A lot of the following are available on abe
books
http://www.abebooks.com
"Precision Measurement and Calibration, NBS Special Publication No. 300"
Volume 1: "Statistical Concepts and Procedures"
Covers handling random and systematic errors and figuring out uncertainty
and how it propagates though several levels of measurements.
Volume 3: "Electricity Low Frequency"
Covers DC, Includes Monograph 84 on Standard Cells, as well ac AC
measurements, Inductance, Capacitance and Resistance, magnetic fields and a
bunch of other stuff.
Volume 4: "Electricity Radio Frequency"
Covers Frequency, Power, Impedance, Noise, Attenuation etc.
These are 35 years old but Standards don't change all that fast. Certainly
any cal standard I can afford is about that old.
I refer to these frequently. I just Snagged Volume 2, Temperature, off of
ABE Books.
There are several Volume 4's and a Volume 3 on ABE BOOKS right now.
Reading the papers in these collections is a lot better than relying on my
regurgitating what I've read.
Also, I've been able to get these on loan through the good offices of my
local county library. It gives the Reference Librarians something different
to do.
