[Test-Equipment] HP 8601A Sweep Generator

I just acquired a HP 8601A Sweep Generator (and 8600A digital marker/
counter) and the page 6-17 item 34 "special lacing cord" type EP127
both pieces are fractured beyond use.  (both lamps are operating)
   What has been successfully used to replace these light guides?
Have LED's been used to modernize this "range indicator"?
If so how?
