[Test-Equipment] Deadly solder su!ckers?

Hi All:

I guess this is really a question about repair equipment...

You know those solder su!ckers we all use to desolder componants
as part of a repair? I recently read (in USA Navy Electronics
tech manual) to be cautious with them. Some can cause static 
discharge and can zap sensitive componants.

Is this true? Do you believe it?
