I believe the HN29 component is a 256Mb Hitachi (Now Renesas after a merger
with part of Mitsubishi) "AND" flash memory component rather than a
controller.

They made many changes to that product line over a fairly brief period of
time. Those particular components are probably no longer in production
which would explain your failure to find specificaitons.

The current products are documented on the Renesas web site and most likely
are pin compatible. You'll have to sort out if the component in your flash
cards are x8 or x16 organization.

Subject: [Test-Equipment] Spec Sheet for HITACHI "HN29W256SAHO5" Compact
Flash Controller

I am booting a small data collection computer from a Compact Flash card in
True IDE mode.

Since it will be used in a classified environment, I need to disallow any
writes to the CF card.

My intention is to disable writes electrically INSIDE the CF card.
After opening two 256MB CF cards from different manufacturers, the
controller chip inside turned out to be in both cases a HITACHI
"HN29W256SAHO5".

I can't find the specs anywhere, not even on pure Japanese websites. For my
purposes, I'm primarily interested in the pinout.

Can anybody help??

Thanks,
Rainer Alpert (KC5VHO)
