That probe head has 4 coils in it arranged as a balanced bridge circuit.
Quoting HP, "The probe head is a specially designed second harmonic
flux-gate type of magnetometer used to measure the magnetic field around a
wire carrying direct current." I think the probability of building one is
nil. I have a hunch it was difficult even for HP because why is this the
only lab-type clamp on DC milliamp meter ever marketed considering its
usefulness? If anyone else knows of another enlighten us. I think it's
safe to say the probe IS the meter. Don't buy without one. I can't recall
ever seeing just a probe offered on the e-place.
