The 10811D is the basic oscillator used in the HP105.
For a long time, it was the only oscillator for which
they grew their own crystals. For 30-some years, they
would watch the process and measure results, and any
time an xtal or oscillator came out with better
results (lower drift or phase noise, which is just
short term drift), they'd figure out why and use that
to improve the process.
I visit that facility about once a week; I'll have to
see if those oscs are still made there. The standards
lab is still there....
