Very true, I just had to discover this for myself a couple of weeks ago.
Had a 10811A that would oscillate but couldn't be brought into calibration.
I replaced the 109-degree (if I remember correctly) fuse with a similar NTE
replacement part.  The replacement was slightly larger, so I had to put a
piece of spaghetti over one lead to avoid shorts.  With these thermal fuses,
you don't want to bend the leads sharply near the body during installation.
Coincidentally, I later found a "hint & kink" in a recent QST covering this
very issue.

I don't see how that fuse could really protect anything, anyway... it's a
long way from the inner oven.  Replacing it with a straight piece of wire
sounds reasonable.
