Chris: I own "one" 509 and the the radio is a very good sensitive
radio an fairly reliable. The main problems are the grease on the vfo
gets solidified after a while. So you may need to remove the old grease
and install a new one...preferably a synthetic one that does not
solidifies. Them you may have to change the elastic band with a new
one a fairly easy repair. You can the vfo kit form tent...the elastic
band you can get from hobbies shops like Michaels. Always keep the vfo
needle all the way to the left so the elastic band does not stretch
and loose its stretchability.. Make sure you do not reverse the
polarity or plug the power cord into the antenna plug...the plugs look
the same. If your vfo does not move you need to clean the vfo. Look
for an article.."argonaut 509 greasing the pig" it will tell you how
to lube the vfo. The filter on the radio is very wide so you need a
external filter.
The Argonaut 509 and the 515 are my favorite qrp radios..simple
radios to have lots of fun with them.
