On the audio menu, set the TX EQ at -15, mike gain at 35-45 and compressor
at 3-5. Then buy the Julius 8 band EQ and EQ plus ASCP. Good luck and 73's

Subject: [TenTec] Orion mike query
Hello everyone.
I am a very new Orion operator. Very, very new.
I did some basic audio checks with one of my VK mates, using the Ten Tec
desk mike, reports of which indicated that it was certainly me, and nice
crisp, clean audio.
Then I used my Heil GM-5 - reports were that the audio was 'muffled',
and that there was a distinctive 'background' noise on my signal - of
which we have not yet determined the source.
NOTHING changed between the usage of both mikes.
Given that I have not yet 'fiddled' with any of the Orion menu settings,
does anyone have a comment on why I should sound 'muffled' on the Heil
mike. Are there any 'fundamental' settings I should make! Whatever.
Input appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.
Ernie
