Hi all,

An interesting event happened to me last night. I was listening to a round
table QSO on the "MAIN RX" on 3.734.007 MHz. I had the same QSO on the "SUB
RX" on 3.734.015 MHz. The slight difference in frequency is probably okay.

On the MAIN RX I was able to select any roofing filter and still hear the
QSO on the above frequency. I could also hear the same QSO when I tuned the
"MAIN RX" to 3.748.035 MHz but ONLY if I had the 20 kHz roofing filter
selected. If I selected any other "narrower" roofing filter the QSO
disappeared all together. This is a difference of 14.028 kHz very close to
the third IF of 14 kHz.

Am I correct in stating that I was listening to the "Image" frequency? If
this is the case and if one was using the 20 kHz roofing filter (if the band
was very quiet and no nearby strong signals) how can you tell which is the
correct frequency?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Tony, VE3DWI.
