"Anyone try wider filters in a Paragon II?" I asked.=A0 No one said they had=
=20
but a few were curious.=A0 Well, I've done it and the preliminary results ar=
e=20
quite satisfactory.=A0 I replaced the 2.4 kHz filter in the 9 MHz IF with a=20=
2.8 kHz=20
filter from Inrad.=A0 I still have a 2.4 kHz filter in the second IF which I=
can=20
switch in when I need it.=A0 The receive audio is quite noticeably improved.=
=A0=20
The good sounding SSB signals sound even better.=A0 When I use the product=20
detector to listen to AM signals (to fight selective fading or QRM)=A0 the a=
udio is=20
nearly as good as the 6 kHz AM audio.=A0 The transmit audio is improved as w=
ell,=20
at least according to the guys I talk to all the time.
The filter came with a recommendation to check the carrier balance.=A0 I=20
didn't.=A0 It's fine.=A0 Others may not be as lucky.
