[TenTec] Corsair II

Ron,
If the VFO is acting up, then a rebuild is necessary. If not, just
enjoy the radio. Unless the radio was subject to heavy use, it is
unlikely the VFO would need a rebuild. I've had several corsairs and
never had to do the rebuild. I have, however had to do one on an older
Omni. Regarding the switching, this is just an insurance move to use an
external relay. With all the TT's I've owned, I never felt this was
necessary, however, I always have used TT power supplies with the rigs.
If you are using a different power supply or running portable/mobile,
then a separate switch/relay may be necessary. There are a number of
mods that have been done on the corsair series, but the most effective
one I have found is replacing the stock filters with Inrads. If you go
to eham.net site, I'm sure you will find plenty of information from
users who are rating the rigs.
