[TenTec] Omni VI+ Software?

The post re the Orion reminded me to ask about this subject.
The VI+ is new to me and I noted in the manual that logging and 
operating software was compatible through the interface.

I'm a neophyte to computer/transceiver software. So when
I ordered some repair parts from T T asked about a list of compatible
software; got absolutely NOTHING from the service department
in Sevierville . Strange ? Claimed they don't endorse a product?
Not even a list with a disclaimer , seemed strange. Wonder why they 
bother with the entire chapter 5 of the manual.

Want to try some packages out to get my feet wet.
Any recommendations?
