Gang:
What sounds like a problem in the AGC circuit of my Argosy
525 has been eluding efforts to track it down for about a
week, and Im wondering if others have had this malady and
what, if anything, you have done to fix it. The audio level
will suddenly drop by about half as though a very loud
signal has hit and the AGC has kicked in to protect things.
This usually is accompanied by a pop and happens when Im
copying a station and/or when Im just monitoring and
nothing is there but the usual band noise. The audio output
is cut by about half. None of the filters AF or IF is
in play, although the NB is on. The signal still can be
copied, and increasing or decreasing the AF gain does not
cure the problem. Then as suddenly as it happened, it pops
again and the audio returns to its normal level. It happens
on all bands, and there is no time-related pattern (i.e.,
every 5 minutes, etc.). This sounds like an electrolytic
thats charging and discharging in the wrong sequence. Is
there one particular suspect? Suggestions? Thanks for your
help and advice.
