Hi Dave,
I have had the Century 21 and worked the world with 20
watts, a long wire and tuner, and an HQ1 mini-quad. I
don't feel the comparison to the HW-8 is warranted.
Concerning other Ten-Tec rigs. I have an Omni 546c
right now that I got for about $500 and I had another
identical expect for the crystal filters and all the
WARC bands were installed. While it had problems left
from the previous owner. The rig has run flawlessly
for me. The QSK is all that you've heard. I love it. I
can say without qualification that I don't need the
crystal filters. The active filters that are standard
with the rig are adequate.
You can find the older 546b and 545 (analog) rigs for
good prices as well. These rigs have exactly the same
QSK circuitry as the 546c. The differences are very
minor and are all associated with the available
frequencies. 545 has an analog scale that has a
tendency to break, but is easily replaced.
I hope this gives you a fair view of my opinion of
Ten-Tec equipment. In addition, I have a very high
opinion of their service as well. They are excellent
when it comes to service.
Regards...
