The lack of sensitivity can easily be relieved by
adding an internal low noise pre-amplifier in the
proper part of the 2m antenna circuit. I use to do
this with older 2m gear with 3N141 dual gate MOSFET
pre-amp right out of the ARRL handbook, but there are
much better circuits around now with lower noise
performance.
