[TenTec] Omni C or Corsair filter upgrades

Hope I don't draw RPG fire from other Ten Tec owners for saying this, but
SSB audio from Corsair and Corsair II, with stock 2.4/1.8 filters, isn't
even in the same ball park as my FT-1000D. CW audio is of course typical
TT - pleasant and clean, even using the 250 Hz filters. On SSB both Corsairs
sound pretty good until I switch back and forth on the same signal using the
1000D and hear what it *should* sound like. Both my Corsairs sound a bit
harsh and restricted on voice audio compared to the full, rich sound from
the 1000D. Speakers aren't making the difference, bacause I'm using the same
switched Yaesu SP-5/DSP-59Y on both. OTOH, I've never listened to the newer
TT's, so that might not be the case with Omni VI's and later. And, to be
fair, one must remember there's a slight difference in the cost of a 1000D
compared to a Corsair! I believe the Corsairs still give more performance
value for the dollar than just about anything else in ham radio, especially
for serious CW ops. Maybe Inrad filters would help, I don't know. But we
gotta remember these are super CW rigs with SSB sort of thrown in just in
case the buyer happened to own a mic. :-)

Does anyone out there have any experience with either of these radios using
the INRAD filters? While I fail to comprehend improving the received audio,
I hear that these filters do improve it. I currently have the stock 1.8 in
both radios as the optional SSB filter. That normally works OK with the
notch and PBT of the corsair. But you know, we hams are always prone to
tinker!!
Any comments ??
