[TenTec] Need help making switch box for Scout 555 modules. . .

I have been thinking about constructing a switch box for the modules for
my Scout, really since a month or two after I bought it in 1998.  I love
this little rig, but I am getting mighty tired of swapping the band
modules in and out, in and out.  What I have planned so far is an
ABS/plastic or aluminum case, large enough to accomodate 6 modules (I
don't use my Scout on 160, 17, or 12), complete with a switch and
indicator lights.  Something not all that different from an old HRO
coil-box.  I keep meaning to call Ten-Tec's technical support
department, but I never seem to make it before they go home @ 4 p.m.
Eastern.  I need to know what the type of connectors used in the modules
are called (esp. the edge-card, but the barrel/coax ones as well), the
size, ratings, and where I can get them.

The modules will connect to the box, with one flat-ribbon cable going
from the box to the module socket on the Scout.  I need to figure out
how to do this so that the job is reliable, durable, and looks nice.
Other questions and issues I have with this project are:  what type of
switch (e.g. rotary ceramic, electronic, multiple push buttons, etc.) to
use to select the active band, and the best circuit arrangement for six
modules?;  the best case material?;  any issues with grounding, cable
lengths, heat, etc.?;  what type & number of indicator(s), i.e.
neon/LED/icandescent?

So, that's my project plan.  Not terribly complicated, but I do have a
few things to work out.  If you have any  suggestions for addressing the
questions I have raised above, I would be grateful to hear them.  Any
other comments or observations are quite welcome too. And BTW, has
anyone else built a box like this for this rig before, or come up with
another good band-switching scheme for the Scout and its modules? Once I
get the project finally thought out I will begin building, and post
pictures and an account of my progress on the web.  Thanks.
