[TenTec] Argosy (analog) 525 - manual?

I recently purchased an Argosy 525 (analog) and matching power supply on
ebay (yes, I hear you laughing). OK I paid $270. plus shipping (yes, you
can start laughing harder). I wanted a little rig I could take
portable, had at least 80, 40, 30 and 20, be a decent CW rig (but with
phone capabilities just in case) and would operate QRP or high power.
It appears that this one will need some work, though, but it is alive.
The outside screws are rusty, although the inside isn't too corroded
looking, but the case is sort of dirty looking. The bandswitch and
controls were tight and noisy. I sprayed the controls and contacts
with some cleaner lube, and put a few drops of oil on the detent balls on
the bandswitch.

Guess I should have known it has been in someone's basement or garage for
the last 10 years. And/or maybe too near the ocean (it came from
Florida).

Anyhow, if I haven't lost you yet...

1. Does anybody know if there is a manual available for download on
line? If not, I guess I can go the manual man route.

2. It has a board that says CW audio filter. But when I push AF in, and
try 1 or 2, the audio goes away. I tried tuning across a CW sig very
slowly and couldn't hear it unless the volume was turned WAY way up and
then there still didn't seem to be any filtering action, maybe just some
signal bleeding through.

3. With any signal at all, the S - meter almost pegs and stays there,
and it will drop back very slowly only with no signal.

4. Sometimes there is a lot of receiver noise at times even with no
antenna. Seems to come and go possibly with moving rear low/high power
switch (I sprayed it and exercised it and it seems to possibly be getting
better).

5. When calibrator is on, gets a pulsing noise, but as I tune slowly
across the band no beat signal. May be a little louder around the 100
KHz points? not sure...

6. The dial pointer sticks just above the "0" as you are tuning down
towards it, if you tune back up eventually the pointer starts to move
again. I want to be very cautious not to lube anything though around
that area and the PTO. I haven't checked for any interference yet.

Once I get the manual and decide to do some troubleshooting, hopefully, I
may be able to figure these out. But I thought I would ask in case these
problems rang a bell with anyone. Oh and I probably will try spraying
and exercising all the connectors. I just did sort of the preliminaries.

I know about the mods for the unit, maybe if I get it in decent working
order I will worry about some of the easy ones. Unless I give up on it
first hi hi. Thanks for putting up with me...

Thanks & 73,

Mark N8COO
