Ok it didn't forward so here it is again. I sent this
to channel 4 news folks. I'm not an engineering
marvel but hope this gets the point across.

I understand you ran a news segment about TXU and
Broadband over power lines. Before you get all
tickled pink, allow me to tell you the rest of the
story.

BPL may be a good way of getting internet to homes.
More likely it's just a way for TXU to get more money
out of our pockets. Here's what the deal is. BPL
emits radio interference within the radio spectrum of
Amateur Radio bands, police and fire bands. The FCC
has minimum interference regulations in place and BPL
blatantly emits more than allowed. The power company
knows this but is attempting to trudge forward and ram
yet more big company down our throat. Stop for a
minute and consider that Amateur Radio played a major
role in hurricane Katrina and Rita evacuations and
passing of health and welfare traffic to loved ones.
Now consider that with BPL in the neighborhood, those
radio operators would not have been able to pass
traffic because ANY signal coming to the radio
receiver would have been obleterated by the
interference emitted by BPL.
Consider the next time you need police or fire
service, they can't hear their dispatchers because of
BPL interferring with radio communication. Oh the
power companies will say "we fix any problem". Check
with the American Radio Relay League and see how
willing the power companies are to "fix" the problem.
Thanks for listening and hopefully this ramrod will
not go down our throats.

Sincerely,
Alan Parker
