To the club:

I have been an amateur for only a year and have really enjoyed both the
experience of being a ham and being a member of the Tri-County Amateur Racio
Club.

Within the past few weeks, I have been able to buy a new radio that will
cover almost everything from 80 meters to 70 cm (it wont operate on 220
mHz). I have some wire to use as a long-wire antenna, which will be used
for startup operation. There are a few items still needed before this new
station can be declared fully operational. These items are: a ground rod,
clamp and ground wire; twin lead wire (either 300 ohm TV lead in or "ladder
line") to connect the tuner to the antenna; and some insulators.

The new station I have is made up of the radio, a power supply, and an
antenna tuner. A suitable location for the antenna has been selected (from
a vent stack on the roof to a tree in the yard). The station can be located
either near a window or along an exterior wall with the ground wire using
the shortest path to earth ground. If the station is near the window, the
antenna feed line will also use the window to exit the room to the roof
line. If the station is not at the window, the wires will be fed through
the wall (for the ground wire) and the attic (for the antenna feed line).

Fred mentioned that there could be at least some of the items needed in the
various collections of the club members and that I could ask for help before
purchasing anything else. If I were to buy everything (which we would
gladly do) the start date for the station would not be earlier than the
latter part of this month (May).

My wife and I both thank the entire club for all the help and support that
has already been offered and for the friendship given. By the way, my wife
is studying to earn her own license.

Thank each of you and 73.
