Disaster Relief Update -- September 25, 2003
Southern Baptist Response
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief has provided more than 322,416 meals
and 4,191 volunteer days in response to Hurricane Isabel. Volunteers
have completed more than 295 cleanup and recovery jobs. The 16 shower
units deployed in this operation have been provided to more than 2,665
individuals.
There are 397 mobile units in the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief
national fleet. To date 116 have been deployed in North Carolina,
Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. These units are owned
and operated by State Baptist Conventions, Associations, and The North
American Mission Board.
There are 22 state Baptist Conventions participating in this response.
The conventions that are responding are: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida,
Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland/Delaware, Michigan,
Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Northwest, Ohio,
Oklahoma, Pennsylvania/South Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas,
Virginia (SBC), and Virginia (VBMB).
There are 24 Feeding units, 53 Cleanup and Recovery units, 16 Shower
units, 4 Communication units that remain on deployment. There are three
additional units (Laundry, Water and Assessment) serving in this
operation.
Disaster Relief Fund
If you would like to make a financial contribution to the Disaster
Relief Fund, make checks payable to the North American Mission Board
marked for disaster relief, and mail to NAMB, P.O. Box 116543, Atlanta,
GA 30368-6543. Donations can also be made online on the Disaster Relief
Fund page or to your state Baptist Convention.
All recovery units and teams that are responding to Williamston are
requested to check with the North Carolina Baptist Men's offices before
