Subject: RE: [TCARC-NTX] Question
Dan,
More than likely these are MARS callsigns. Military Amateur Radio
Affiliate. Mars is a service that requires an additional license above the
amateur radio license (but is for licensed amateur radio operators with the
additional license) and is used for communicating military traffic and
messages. There are divisions of MARS for all branches of the service (I
think). As a matter of fact, I am a licensed MARS affiliate myself. I
can't place the callsigns listed below, but the format looks to probably be
US Army. Mine is Air Force AFA4CE. MARS callsigns are relatively easy to
get, once you have acquired a technician class amateur radio operator
license or above. The traffic on these frequencies is monitored heavily
though to follow a specific military format.
In order to use MARS, it typically requires that a modification be done to
your ham equipment to allow it to transmit out of band on these military
frequencies. I think the transmissions you heard were probably legal
communications.
Hope that helps to answer your question.

Subject: [TCARC-NTX] Question
I was listening to 143.99 this morning and I heard two guys talking
using some strange sounding call signs, when I got to the computer to
look them up, I found that there is no record of these call signs. What
does a person do when you hear someone violating the rules? The call
signs were AAR6GM and AAR6QO. Can anyone help me out?
