American Radio Relay League and Department of Homeland Security to
Announce New Partnership
WHAT: ARRL--the national association for Amateur Radio and the
Department of Homeland Security are teaming up to support Citizen Corps,
a community-based initiative dedicated to disaster preparedness and
response. A Statement of Affiliation between ARRL and DHS will be signed
during the 2003 ARRL National Convention in Arlington, June 20-22.
Homeland Security officials also will address convention attendees about
the importance of Amateur Radio emergency communications and the
contributions Amateur Radio operators can make to homeland security.
The ARRL National Convention is sponsored by "Ham-Com," the
largest annual Amateur Radio convention in Texas, which celebrates its
25th anniversary this year. More information is available on the Ham-Com

WHERE: Arlington Convention Center, 1200 Ballpark Way, Arlington.
WHO: Chief Operating Officer of the Emergency Preparedness and Response
Directorate Ron Castleman will represent DHS at the event. ARRL
President Jim Haynie will sign the Statement of Affiliation on behalf of
ARRL. Elizabeth DiGregorio, Liaison to the White House for Citizen
Corps, also will be on hand to explain the significance of the
first-ever SoA between DHS and ARRL. Haynie, a Dallas resident, serves
ARRL as a volunteer.
